| November 18-20, 2005 Troop 516's second bi-annual Thanksgiving Feast! The Scouts spent most of the day cooking turkeys and pies, and invited their families out to join in on the feast that evening. The Scouts also put on a campfire show to entertain all the guests. Click on a thumbnail for an expanded view of the picture. Photos 1 to 24 of 47 | |||
Baking the first wave of pies. | We camped in the Green Meadows campsite at Woodland Trails because it offered plenty of space for the patrols to spread out.
We dug out the grass to make cooking spots, so that when we were finished, we could simply out the grass back in the hole and not leave a visible scar on the ground from the fire. | One of the ways the Scouts cooked their turkeys was inside a giant aluminum tripod, with the turkey suspended above the ground.... Just add charcoal.
Another method for cooking a turkey was to put the bird on a metal stake, and set a metal trash can (new, of course) over top of it, place charcoal on top and around the sides, and it made a nice oven to cook in. | A tripod still in construction. | Another reason to cook in a hole in the ground is because it helps keep the wind off of the charcoal fire, keeping it hotter.
Lots and lots of charcoal. We used about 1000 pounds of it over the course of the weekend.
Just look at that pie! | Checking to see if the pies are done cooking. | Another perfect pie!
Yea Michigan! Oh, wait, they lost this year... | And yet another perfect pie!
